Community Workshop - Community Recreation Center
We'd like your input on these two questions:
-
Is the community of South Milwaukee interested in building a community recreation center?
-
If so, what should be included in a potential community recreation center?
The South Milwaukee Recreation Department will be hosting a Community Workshop on the possibility of creating a South Milwaukee Community Recreation Center - please come to provide your input!
Please Note: No formal decisions have been made regarding constructing a Community Recreation Center at this time - that's why we want to hear from you!
Background Information:
A committee of 19 community members, school district, and Recreation department employees have been meeting to discuss the potential interest in pursuing a stand-alone community recreation center.
The committee is still in the early phases of its work and no formal decisions regarding a community recreation center have been made. Before moving forward on their work, the committee is hoping to receive wider community input regarding potential interest in order to see if it's on the right track.
Please see the FAQ below for more details!

Origin of the Idea
Preliminary discussions related to a potential community recreation center began in 2021. The school district created a 5-year strategic plan in the 2023-24 school year, and an item that came up was the need to create a committee to look into this matter further.
As a result, a committee was formed in the fall of 2024 in order to help the school board answer two questions:
- Is the community of South Milwaukee interested in building a community recreation center?
- If so, what should be in a potential recreation center?
