South Milwaukee Recreation Department is a department within the school district that strives to enhance the quality of life by providing recreational, educational, and social opportunities in partnership with schools, organizations, and the community.  Programming is offered year-round.  We offer activities for youth through adults, which include team sports, camps, enrichment programs, fine arts, and exercise.  We also provide a Before and After Care program at all 4 of the district elementary schools. We encourage you to be active and take advantage of the many opportunities available. If you would like us to offer a program that we are not currently offering,  please contact any of the staff listed on the website.

The 2025-26 school calendar includes ten (10) School Out Days—these are full days when there is no school. On these days the Recreation Department is offering a special program at Rawson School from 7:00-5:30 pm.

Swim Lessons-Fall, Winter & Spring
The SM Rec Dept is partnering with the Cudahy Rec Dept. to bring you quality lessons in a warm and inviting Cudahy Middle School Pool, 5530 S. Barland Avenue. We can now offer you more opportunities and classes during the week and on Saturdays. Please bring a bathing suit, towel, and a lock if you wish to use a locker. From the parking lot, enter door #17, labeled Gym Entrance, and the locker rooms will be down the hall on your left.

South Milwaukee Aquatice Club
If you are looking to improve your swimming skills and compete with others within your age group and ability, then you must register for this program.We have partnered with Schroeder Swim Team offer one of the finest competitive swim programs in the area, with multiple training levels of instruction from the Novice swimmer through the Senior level swimmer. Any swimmer who can complete one length of the pool (25 yards) is encouraged to join. Sharks Swim Team teaches and enhances the skills and techniques for competitive swimming. Swimmers should bring their own practice suit, goggles, and swim cap.

Private Lessons
When our kids learn to swim, they gain strength and confidence in the water and the ability to be SAFE! Our instructors will design specific lesson plans to meet your child's needs (beginner water skills, introduc- tion to water skills, fundamentals, and stroke development).

Winter Adult Paint & Take Classes

Adults and students age 16 and up.  High School Art Room #2352-enter door #8.

This is a professionally led painting class with step-by-step instructions. All supplies are provided. Come for the fun and go home with a painting. This class is open to all levels of experience, from the beginner painter to the experienced painter. The instructor loves to share her joy of painting with everyone. She has taught art for over 20 years and has a master’s in visual arts - this class will fill up fast.

 

Instructor is Nancy Wolf who has taught art for the  Racine Unified School District  since 2001-present.
